Bin Lorry
LEGO would probably call this a Refuse Collection Truck or something, but round our way these are bin lorries and that’s what this shall henceforth be called! Anyway, it might just be a bin lorry, but what a magnificent one it is. Zbiczasty has recreated the Volvo FH cab and Anaconda compactor so brilliantly we had to click on the thumbnail image of the real truck in his recently modified Brickshelf gallery to check it wasn’t Lego too. Grey Day
It’s mid-winter here at TLCB Towers, and whilst those from warmer climes are probably picturing piles fluffy white snow, the reality is at the moment everything is an unremitting sea of Grey.
So in recognition of the boring palette at work outside, here are two decidedly grey Lego creations*. First up is MortalSwordman’s brilliant little Volkswagen Golf GTI. The design of the first generation of Wolfsburg’s ‘Peoples’ Hatchback’ was so successful it is still defining the styling direction of the entire Volkswagen range today. Today’s second grey creation was suggested to us by a reader. It comes from Brickshelf’s myszomor, and it’s a World War 2 Skoda RSO truck.
Skoda built the RSO under force from the occupying Nazi’s, who wanted it for their war effort. Luckily the RSO had a few design flaws that were never rectified, so the truck wasn’t as useful as the Nazi’s wanted it to be. Good. *Smarties don’t come in grey for today’s successful Elf, so one of the office staff sucked a red one until the colour had come off…

Man With a Van
Whilst many of our sci-fi oriented Elves are busy giggling at this year’s Febrovery creations, some of them are still scouring the rest of the internet. One Elf has just been rewarded with a shiny red Smartie for bringing back this pick-up truck. It’s the latest in Don Wilson’s series of flying vehicles, that has also included racing cars, speeders and a scrap metal lorry. Click this link to see more of Don’s models on Flickr.

Red, White and Blue
This impressive American rig is the work of Ingmar Spijkhoven of MOCpages and Brickshelf fame. Ingmar has packed his model with LEGO’s Power Functions components so that his truck can drive, steer and light the road ahead remotely. It’s also got solid axel suspension, a working fifth wheel and a detailed cabin and engine bay. There’s lots more to see at the links above – click to make the jump.

Classic Truckin’
Flickr’s Arian Janssens has appeared here at TLCB a few times over the years, and on each occasion with a DAF truck. Building diversity may not be Arian’s thing, but if you’re good at something there’s lots to be said for sticking with it. Arian’s latest truck – a classic DAF FT 18DS – shows the results such building consistency can bring. There’s more to see at the link above.

Accessorise My Set
This enormous Technic rig was discovered by an Elf on Flickr. It starts of course with the official LEGO 8258 Crane Truck set behind which Ingmar Spijkhoven has constructed a matching Power Functions controlled steered-axel trailer (complete with excavator set load). The set-up features a huge variety of working functions, both from the official LEGO sets and Ingmar’s complimenting creation – it’s definitely something we’d like to see more builders attempt.

Convoi Exceptionnel Picture Special
There’s a very fat Elf somewhere in the office today. Fat because it legitimately earned – and spent – three meal tokens in one go.
Flickr’s Barry Bosman aka Barman76 has caused the temporary obesity through his wonderful trio of complimenting creations; a huge Mercedes-Benz heavy haulage truck, its mobile crane load and, our favourite, a simply brilliant Volkswagen Transporter escort vehicle. Truckin’
Today’s creation is one of the simpler models to appear here in recent times, but it’s no less lovely for that. Artemy Zotov makes his TLCB debut with this neat Technic Peterbilt 379. It’s got hand-of-God steering, opening doors, and – somewhat oddly – a working two cylinder engine. There’s more to see on MOCpages at the link above.

Ticket to Ride
Getting a ticket isn’t fun, and in many cities if you’ve parked particularly poorly you might come back to find an empty space where your car used to be*.
Brickshelf’s pipasseyoyo has recreated the traffic warden’s favourite tool – the hoist truck – in Technic, and he’s included a whole host of Power Functions components too.
His build includes four motors running through three gearboxes, meaning the truck can drive, steer, tilt and lower the ramp, rotate, extend and lift the crane boom, and deploy stabilisers. Which is a lot more than most official LEGO Technic sets. You can see how it’s all packed in via the link to Brickshelf above.

Return of the Mack
This beautiful Model Team recreation of the Mack RL700L ‘Rubber Duck’ from the 1978 movie ‘Convoy’ was discovered on Brickshelf today. There’s only one photo at the moment – and we have a feeling that we’ve seen this builder before somewhere*. zmasterbrick is the mysterious creator and you can see their Mack in full-size by clicking the source link above.
*Answers in the comments if you know! It does make for a clever title though.

Two Trucks Tuesday
A peaceful morning in TLCB Towers was shattered today by the sound of something heavy and metallic hitting something soft and fleshy. The two objects in question turned out to be a desk lamp and an Elf, which was itself armed with a stolen hole-punch for defence-by-body-piercing.
With the two combatants separated, one of which was sporting a newly (and no doubt unwanted) pierced ear, we could investigate the cause of the ruckus.
Two Model Team style trucks, both remotely controlled by Power Functions, and both discovered on the image-sharing site Flickr. Luckily for the two aforementioned Elves both creations are worthy of appearing here, and so each of them has earned a meal token, making the lamp vs. hole punch fight somewhat necessary.
Anyway, the models! First up (above) is previous bloggee Ingmar Spijkoven‘s Mack Granite truck, with RC drive and steering, solid axel suspension and a working fifth wheel. Click on Ingmar’s name to see more of his mighty Mack.
The second of today’s trucks (below) comes from another previous bloggee from Flickr, Marek Mankiewicz aka M_longer. Marek has reconstructed a superb replica of MAN’s TGS 8×4 dump truck, and he’s added a drawbar trailer for good measure too. There’s lots more to see at the link above.

Home Delivery
Our Elves almost missed this charming creation from Galaktek, on Flickr. Unusually for a sci-fi build it isn’t covered in guns & missiles and our workforce has a proven penchant for such things. This delivery lorry could easily be from the near future of Lego’s “City” range and features some very neat “wheel” units. Click on this link to see how Galaktek made them.

Three Garys
Today, like every pub in Birmingham, TLCB has three Gary’s present. These beautifully built Technic GAZ 51 trucks – in dropside, tipper and crane flavours – were discovered on Eurobricks. They’ve been built by newcomer super-jaschka and each one features a range of Technic functionality.
Our favourite is this one, the crane truck, which features a working engine, steering, stabilisers, lifting boom, winch, crane rotation and opening doors and bonnet. Extreme Loggers
This monster MAZ-537 logging truck was discovered not by our Elves, who are now sulking, but by one of you. It’s been built by Pavol Vanek of Flickr, and it is quite simply one of the most impressive Technic models we’ve seen this year.
The MAZ-537 was designed for the soviet military (like pretty much everything else from Communist eastern Europe) and was manufactured from 1959 until 1990. It was powered by a 39 litre 12-cylinder diesel engine coupled with a three-speed hydromechanical transmission, featured 4-wheel-steering and 4-wheel-drive, and it could carry 50 ton loads.
Pavol’s superb Lego recreation features all of this (minus the crazy gearbox), plus some clever pneumatics that allow his MAZ-537 to fulfil its post-military civilian role.

Carripana
After publishing lots of big things in the last few days we thought we’d take a look at the smaller end of the building scale. This patient mini-figure, waiting for a hedgehog to cross in front of him, is at the wheel of Cesar Soares‘ charming Town-scale pick-up truck. MOCpages hosts all the photos.
